Meeting with Legacy. Wow!

Thursday, 21 Feb 2008 | by Mark Tucker

A few weeks ago I met with members of the Legacy Family Tree team and saw a preview of Legacy 7.  I am very impressed.  They have really taken source citation seriously and have done a remarkable job digesting the citation models in Elizabeth Shown Mill’s “Evidence Explained.”  With the amount of time and effort that Geoff has spent understanding that hefty volume, he is probably one of only a few experts on it.

I am excited for the chance to take if for a spin myself and see how it does for day to day use.

  1. Mark,

Any details on Legacy 7 . . . specific new features, release date, etc. There just isn’t any info out there, as far as I can see. The Legacy blog has been doing final tests approaching release since last summer.

  2. Last summer is when “Evidence Explained” by Elizabeth Shown Mills was released. It is quite a large volume and the Legacy team has done a great job 1) understanding it and 2) modifying their software to use it.

Things are getting closer by the day, but I do not know of a specific release date. In the last podcast interview that Geoff did with DearMyrtle on 19 Feb 2008, it sounded like the timeframe was 1-2 months.

I do know that they are working hard. They have already announced that Legacy 7 will have Mill’s source citations and charting (including DNA). We talked about another major feature, but I can’t discuss it.

I am anxious to get a copy myself. I’ll make another post when I know more.
