Just found this list - always appreciate efforts to differentiate the many great blogs out there.
One of my areas of interest is showcasing the results of genealogy research on video: http://www.yourstoryhere.blogspot.com/. RootsTelevision is posting a lot of stuff in this space and this is their weekly blog: http://rootstelevision.typepad.com/ogblog/.
Video is not for everyone but it opens up some new possibilities - and future genealogists are going to love us for it!

I would like to second Randy's suggestion to separate Top 10 into Blogs, podcasts and Videocasts. That way we can have 30 great ways to obtain new information. And I would also include your blog. Of course anyone reading your Top 10 already knows about your blog!!

My only complaint with the top ten is some of them do not send their entire blog to the RSS feed. I use OUTLOOK to view the feed, and some bloggers will have their entire post in the feed reader. Others have just a few lines, then a link to click to read it online. If I wanted to read it online, I wouldn't set up the RSS feed to read it while in OUTLOOK. Please bloggers, set up the RSS feed to include your ENTIRE blog. I know they will contain links where I will have to go online to read, but allow me the option of reading the full blog in my feed reader and not on your blog site.

Other than that, I so appreciate them taking the time to gather the information and publish it for me so I don't have to spend all my free time searching out new information on websites, conferences, etc.
I read the blogs in OUTLOOK before work every morning and then listen to the podcasts in my car on the way to work. That way I have some me time every day before I go to work and sometimes in the afternoon when I get home.

Dear Mark,
Thanks for the honor of naming DearMYRTLE's Family History Hour to your list of the top 10 blogs and podcasts for 2007. With a variety of bloggers and podcasters, it is getting easier for a person to learn how to climb his family tree.

And for Jewish genealogy and all its multi-disciplinary aspects, try Tracing the Tribe - The Jewish Genealogy Blog (http://tracingthetribe.blogspot.com).

Our growing gen-blogging community offers so many resources, that it's hard to
choose only 10.

Sorry about my previous comment - shows that I was not paying attention - Genealogy Gems was on the list already! Anyway, great list. I wish Family Roots Radio Genealogy Hour would continue posting new podcasts - I really enjoyed that.

Mark,
Thanks for adding GenealogyBlog to your list of the Top Ten genealogy blogs. I agree with Randy in that there are so many good genealogy-related blogs, that it's difficult to pick - but we appreciate your attempt! I've been blogging for about 4 years now, so I guess that makes me an old-timer at this thing. But it's been very exciting to see so make good - and complimentary blogs come online in the last couple years or so. Now none of us has to feel that we have the whole world on our shoulders, having to share all the new and exciting things going on in genealogy. Believe it or not, just three years ago I felt a burden to blog four to six hours every day of the week - and sometimes that wasn't enough. The genealogy bloggers now share the load - and have a good time doing it. The fact is, some of us even "have a life" again.
Keep up the great work, keep on blogging and have a fantastic 2008. - Leland

There are so many great blogs that 10 can't begin to cover them. From a technical/howto perspective I highly recommend Susan Kitchen's Family Oral History Using Digital Tools (http://familyoralhistory.us/news). Sally Jacobs' The Practical Archivist (http://practicalarchivist.blogspot.com/) is also full of great information we all can put to good use.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the listing on your top 10. I appreciate it.

I do feel that you should separate blogs from podcasts - and I would add videocasts to the podcasts so you can get more than 10. If you did that, you could list more blogs.

I agree with the blogs you listed - and would add Creative Gene, Hill Country of Monroe County, Mississippi, Geneablogie, Desktop Genealogist, Transylvania Dutch, Kinexxions, Ancestories, Family Matters, Steve Danko, Footnote Maven, Ancestry Insider, Destination:Austin Family, and many more. I really can't pick just 10!

I enjoy and appreciate your blog too! -- Randy
